Evo on the Daily Show

The last time Evo Morales made it on the airwaves of the Daily Show, it was a pretty light-hearted affair. However, I got word that the Bolivian president in New York City for the UN Summit, will appear in person with Jon Stewart on Tuesday, September 25. From the Comedy Central website.

Bolivian President Evo Morales will appear as a guest on the Emmy® and Peabody® Award-winning “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart” on Tuesday, September 25 at 11:00 p.m. (ET/PT).The visit by President Morales marks the second time a sitting head of state has appeared on “The Daily Show.” General Pervez Musharraf, President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, was the first, appearing on September 26, 2006. In addition, former President Jimmy Carter appeared on the show in December 2005 and former President Bill Clinton has appeared three times, most recently last Thursday.

Luckily, the interview will be online the following day. Let’s hope he knows that it is a comedy show and doesn’t spout off some ridiculous statements like his new ally. It would have been interesting to find out who made the connection and accepted the invitation.

  1. Don’t you think Evo should bring some chicha and maybe get Stewart drunk. I hope he brings some coca as well. I’m sure John will enjoy it.

I think they should have invited Bolivians to come and I would have been there in a heart beat.

Thanks, I had to write about it as well. Of course I’ll be watching and maybe we can discuss Evo’s need of learning English later. :)

Thanks for posting this. As soon as I saw it, I called my husband (he’s Bolivian) and said at around 150mph…

    “Oh-my-God-you-have-to-TiVo-this-Guess-What-Evo-is-going-to-be-on-The-Daily-Show-please-please-please-make-sure-it-gets-recorded-cool-huh-gotta-watch-it-with-me-wonder-what-Jon-Stewart-is-gonna-say…”

    Basically, I regressed into a hyper 15 year old…

I wasn’t surprised that a lot of Jon Stewart’s sarcasm was lost in translation…though I am glad that Evo cracked a joke at the end. I’m not sure of the politics in Bolivia, my husband doesn’t like to discuss them anymore, he says that since he’s been out of the country, he can’t keep up with it anymore. Someone once cracked a joke about how “if you don’t like the weather in Florida, (We live in Northern VA, by the way) just wait 5 minutes, it’ll change”, and my husband told him you could say the same thing about the political environment in Bolivia. So, I’m just not sure if Evo is doing right or wrong by Bolivia, but from what it sounded like on the show, things are going in a positive direction.

So anyway…what did you think of the show?

    Hi Eddie

This guy seriously believes his own dribble doesn’t he? If it wasn’t so sad for Bolivia it would be funny.
