Consensus Reached Written on March 4, 2006, by Eddie.

It appears that Congress reached a compromise in regards to the election of the representatives for the Constituent Assembly. There will now be 255 constituyentes.

The departmental representatives favors the larger cities. Most likely those living abroad will not elect representatives, but are scheduled to vote in the referendum to approve the new Constitution.

I’m starting to crunch the numbers. This arrangement will benefit the lowland departments (and other smaller departments, to lesser extent), and will likely keep the assembly from being a pro-Evo rubber stamp (as happened in the Venezuela & Peru cases). Though it’ll all depend on the actual election of reps, of course.
